Add Amazon.com Content to your BANS Site

If you aren't already aware of it, Amazon.com has an affiliate program (in fact, I believe they started affiliate programs). You can easily combine Amazon.com content into your existing Build A Niche Store. The best part is you don't need to know any coding to do this.

Tip: You are allowed a maximum of 100 tracking IDs per Amazon affiliate account. This may not be an issue if you have very few BANS sites but it may if you have a lot of sites, or, if you wish to create tracking IDs for multiple results per site (i.e. if you choose to show results via Add Amazon.com as a Store Page).

I contacted Amazon and asked if affiliate associates are allowed to have more than one account. The answer is, "Yes." Here is the exact response I got from Amazon about this:

"It is not against our policy to have more than one Associates account.

There are a lot of Associates who have two or more Associate Id under the same e-mail address and have other accounts under a different e-mail address."

There are many ways to add Amazon.com content. I will show you three ways to do so. Play around with the other options Amazon offers to see if they will suit your store better than what I show you here.

How to Add Amazon.com as an Ad (similar to AdSense ads)

  • Sign up as an affiliate with Amazon.com at http://affiliate-program.amazon.com/join if you are not already an affiliate.
  • Login to your affiliate account.
  • Click on the manage button (next to Tracking ID):
  • Click on the aStore option found under Tools (on the left sidebar):
  • Click on the Add Tracking ID button:
  • Enter wording relevant to the type of Amazon content you will add under Add a new Tracking ID
    • Tip: Each tracking ID can be used only for the widget, link, etc. that you create with it. You can create a total of 100 tracking IDs for each Amazon affiliate account you have. You can always edit a tracking ID but the results on your store will reflect the change.
    • Tip: Because of this you may want to choose a name that is relevant to how you will use the tracking ID.For example, if your site is about dog training and you want to add Amazon books on dog training as a Store Page then name it dogtraining-books-storepage.
    • For this tutorial I am creating a tracking ID named mylittlepony
  • Click on the Search button:
  • Click the Continue button (assuming the tracking ID name you chose is available - if it wasn't try again until you get one that is):
  • Select the Tracking ID you just created (for this example I will select mylittlepony-20) so the widget (or other affiliate link) you create will be tracked with that ID. You can do this one of two ways:
    1. Click on the drop-down menu under Tracking ID
    2. OR
    3. Click on the link of the tracking ID you just created
    • Tip: You will know you have the correct tracking ID if you can see it in two places. The selected Tracking ID will be visible in:
      1. The drop-down menu
      2. AND
      3. The selected tracking ID
  • Click on aStore (in the left sidebar):
  • Click on the Build an aStore Now button (if you have previously created an aStore, widget, or link then you will not see the image below and you will have to create a new eStore for your Tracking ID):
  • Decide what options you want to include for you aStore and click on what you want:
  • Click on the Add Category Page button:
  • Enter a title for your Category Page (in this example I named the category My Little Pony ):
  • Add products to your content page by selecting an option for adding products from the drop-down menu (for this example I am adding using the Add individual products option but you can play around with the other options to see which you prefer) and then clicking on the Add products button :
  • Choose where your products will be pulled from and what keywords to search for results (this is the same thing you do with your BANS store pages, just in a different format):
    1. Choose the Amazon category you want results to be pulled from (this would be equivalent to the eBay category numbers for a BANS store page). In this example I am using All Products so results will come from anywhere within Amazon.
    2. Enter your keywords for search results (I believe you can use the same search methods as you do in your BANS stores). In this example I entered my little pony.
  • Click on the Go button:
  • Choose the products you want in your aStore by clicking on the Add button next to any item:
    • Tip: If you change your mind and want to remove an item just click on the Remove button next to an item
    • You can see the item you have chosen in the Added Products window
  • Click on the Back to Category Pages button (this is at the bottom of the page):
  • Enter a description for the top of the aStore (in this example I entered My Little Pony items at Amazon.com)
  • Click on the Save Changes button:
  • Click on the Continue button (this is at the bottom):
  • Customize the look of your aStore with the choices on the left side and preview how it will look on the right side:
  • Enter a name for your store (in this example I entered My Little Pony Items on Amazon.com)
  • Click on the Continue button (or, click on the Preview Store button if you want to see what it looks like so far) :
  • Click on aStore Widget link (on the left Tools sidebar):
  • Choose the look of your aStore by selecting from options from Configure layout options
  • Edit colors from Select colors
    • For this example I chose the following options:
      • Header content = Show Amazon Logo
      • Widget size = 160x600
      • Clicked link to open in = New window
      • Border = Show border
    • Tip: You can learn how to further customize your aStore by clicking on the aStore Widgets FAQ link
  • Copy the HTML code from HTML code for your aStore links:
  • Login to your BANS site and go to Ads
  • Paste the HTML code in the location you want results to show
  • Click on the Update Ads button

Here is how the aStore I just created looks on my website:

That's it! It may seem a bit confusing at first but, as with BANS, the more you do this the easier it will get.

    1. Choose the Amazon category you want results to be pulled from (this would be equivalent to the eBay category numbers for a BANS store page). In this example I am using Add products by Amazon.com Category since I know what category My Little Pony ornaments are in.
    2. Enter your keywords for search results (I believe you can use the same search methods as you do in your BANS stores). In this example I chose the Home & Garden category and entered my little pony ornaments as my keywords.
  • Click on the Go button:
  • Enter a category description for the top of the aStore (in this example I entered My Little Pony Ornaments at Amazon.com)
  • Click on the Save Changes button:
  • Click on the Continue button (this is at the bottom):

  • Enter a name for your store (in this example I entered My Little Pony Ornaments on Amazon.com)
  • Click on the Continue button (or, click on the Preview Store button if you want to see what it looks like so far) :
  • Leave the Sidebar placement option at the default option (you won't be using this as a sidebar so it won't matter if left or right is selected)
    • Depending on the width of your site you may find it best to uncheck every option (for this example I unchecked every button)
  • Click the Finish & get link button:
  • Click on the View store button to make sure the aStore widget looks the way you want it to:
    • If it doesn't, click on the Previous button and make changes until you are satisfied with how it looks
  • Select the Embed my store using an inline frame option
    • Tip: The default length for an aStore is 4000 pixels. This is much longer than I need. If this is true for you, too, you can edit the code before you copy it. I like length to be 900 pixels.
    • Tip: The default width for an aStore is 80%. For most BANS pages this will make the aStore appear to be cutoff on one side. If this happens you can edit the code before you copy it. I like the width to be 93%. There is a Search box on the side of the main window that won't show as your store's pages are likely too narrow to display it so look for a width that will show the main results box but not the search box.
  • Highlight the code and copy it:
  • Login to your BANS site and go to Content Pages
  • Create a new store page
  • Fill in each section:
    • Title = whatever you want your page to be titled
    • Keywords = whatever keywords you want to use
    • Description = whatever description you want for your new page
    • Content = Click on the < > (HTML editor) link to open the HTML editor, paste the aStore code here, then click the ok button
    • Parent Category = where ever you want the new store page to reside
    • Page Name = whatever you want your page to be named
    • File Name = whatever you want your URL to be named
  • Click on the Save Page button

That's it! You now have a content page that shows Amazon.com results.
