Article 1 Section 8
As Madison stated in Federalist No. 45:
Powers delegated to the Federal government are few and defined
Powers remaining in the State governments are numerous and indefinite
Too many in representatives (and citizens) do not understand the authority granted unto congress; this authority is defined in the Constitution with the 18 enumerated powers (Article 1 Section 8).
Really starting at the beginning of the 1900s legislators, presidents, bureaucrats, and justices have bastardized the meaning, intent, and interpretation of these powers and our founding documents in general. Until this is stopped and reversed, we will continue to put band-aids on mortal wounds.
Some of the major violations to the pure constitution are around 3 clauses:
1.General Welfare clause
2.Necessary and Proper clause
3.Commerce clause
Another large departure from original intent of the constitution is when the 14th Amendment was reinterpreted to apply the Bill of Rights (1st 10 Amendments) to the states. This was never the intent of the founders. The entire purpose of the Constitution was to define the purpose and limitations of the general (i.e. federal) government.

@d3p3ch3mod3 I love it when people need to portray themselves with a false sense of security in an arguement by typing the overused acronym of “lol”. So your telling me that liberals didnt use the words “Bush Docturine” in a snyde manner to thrash him? Also the words “hilarious backfire” tells us that you are not looking at this from an unbiased point of view. Especially when he was backed by 75% of congress to implement the “Bush Docturine”. Facts are stubborn arent they?
@CWSmith1982 lol …
@CWSmith1982 lol how did i “prove your point” when you said that the bush doctrine was made up by liberals to make bush look bad when it was made up by conservatives to make him look good and make people think of the reagan doctrine and the monroe doctrine
Obviously what happened was that Bush made the term “doctrine” look bad after conservatives tried to use the term to make him look good. Hilarious backfire.
@d3p3ch3mod3 Thank …
@d3p3ch3mod3 Thank you for proving my point. The term Bush Docturine was never a term made up by the whitehouse. It was a fictional docturine that seemed to change for every news channel you watched. Despite however Krouthammer used it first, the news channels used it to beat him over the head later, meaning something different depending on the channel you were watching.

@d3p3ch3mod3 Thank you for proving my point.
@CWSmith1982

@CWSmith1982
Bush Doctrine was coined by Krauthammer from Fox News before 9/11 even happened in an attempt to make Bush into Reagan because of the Reagan Doctrine. He made up the term Bush Doctrine because Krauthammer supported the Iraq War and wanted Bush’s name to be stamped on the glorious outcome
@CWSmith1982 And …
@CWSmith1982 And what facts have you brought up? Your main argument is that you can’t seem to find Article 1 Section 8 Clause 1 in the US Constitution and some how that’s my fault…???? How is this a plausible argument?
@ooMONKEYoo ok ok. …
@ooMONKEYoo ok ok. I get it. More nonrelated personal attacks in the absence of the facts of the topic at hand. You cant refute the facts so you attack the person. It is obvious that I’m probaly talking to a child and I refuse to waste further time responding. Have a good one!

@ooMONKEYoo When …
@ooMONKEYoo When people like yourself have nothing of substance to add to the conversation due to the fact that the truth has allready been laid out, personal attacks seem to take over. There is more than one “first clause” in the constitution for each section, article, and amendment. While you speak of article 1 section 8 you are lacking in the definition of “what you consider to be” the first clause. comprehension has nothing to do with it.
@CWSmith1982 I …
@CWSmith1982 I assume your reading comprehension is low. See – It’s fun to assume.
@d3p3ch3mod3 There …
@d3p3ch3mod3 There is no such thing as the Bush Doctrine. Thats just a label the media used to mak him sound more evil and neglect the fact that Congress supported him 3 to 1 in invading Iraq.
Congress doesent …
Congress doesent have the authority to do whatever it pleases in the name of “general welfare”. If they did there would be no need for the 17 enumerated powers.
“With respect to the two words ‘general welfare,’ I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.” –James Madison
@ooMONKEYoo By …
@ooMONKEYoo By first clause I assume you mean the preamble that grants absolutly no power to congress whatsoever?
@CWSmith1982 Bingo. …
@CWSmith1982 Bingo. The enumerated powers are the only ways Congress can lay and collect taxes to provide for the common defense and general welfare. There’s only 17.

Its funny you bother to make this video about Article 1, Section 8 without reading the first clause.
There are 17 …
There are 17 enumerated powers. The first one stated is a preamble to the powers of congress. James Madison made this clear. Federalist # 41: “Nothing is more natural nor common than first to use a general phrase, and then to explain and qualify it by a recital of particulars.”
Beautiful video.
Beautiful video.
If you going to …
If you going to start from the grassroots wouldn’t these basic fundamentals apply to our leaders in the town halls? It is overwhelming how ignored we are in my town hall. If the town hall circumvents its duty to the Constitution and Blue laws then how can we ever expect the Congress to hold up their honor?

HC doesn’t fit into the GW clause. Read Fed papers to start. Best commentary on this is fount at tenth amendment center d-o-t com (YouTube wont let me post a link). Searn for an article called Congress: A Wealth-Eating Virus

So…how do you feel that his “General Welfare” clause ties into the Healthcare debate going on today?
I agree with you on the Patriot Act and Congress delegating its War powers to Bush…sad, very sad.

Trust anyone who’s head is smaller than a ping pong ball.
I have problems …
I have problems with much of both. It all comes down to proper authority. Patriot Act while being a foothold to do some good things, has an immeasurable ability to support grave injustices. In the hands of the wrong people, it can pave the way to unmistakable tyranny. As for Bush doctrine (there’s multiple)…I’ll simply state that fighting a war under executive order is a departure from the authority We the People consented to in our constitution. I hope this answers your question.
