How do I get the old yahoo toolbar back?
I use firefox and the only things I have found are to install the old toolbar for internet explorer. This new toolbar makes my firefox freeze and it never used to freeze. Please help!
Warning: although it says that the old version is compatible with FF 3.6, my experience is that it doesn’t work!
First, uninstall your current Yahoo Toolbar, then restart FF.
Then go here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2032, scroll down to the bottom & select "View All Versions." (If you trust me, you can get there directly by just using this link to start https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/2032.) Once there, select the 1.6.6.20090220 version (or use this direct link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/2032#version-1.6.6.20090220) & click on "Add to Firefox." The next screen has a button for "Accept & Install." When you click on it, the installation may fail. If that’s the case, try again by right-clicking on "Accept & Install" & choose "Save Link as…" Save the .xpi file somewhere on your computer, then open it in FF (File, Open File…) to install it.
If you’re like me, you’ll end up with the old Toolbar installed on FF but automatically disabled because it’s not compatible with FF 3.6, even though it says it is! I’ve even tried editing the .rdf file inside the xpi file to change the maxversion value to get it to work (which has worked for other extensions) but it didn’t help with Yahoo Toolbar. Maybe Yahoo will listen to its users (that’d be a first!) & give us the old TB back because the version 2 TB is really bad!!!
Good luck! Let me know how you make out because I’d love to have mine working again. Yahoo keeps doing things that just pushes me further & further away as a user…
<edit> P.S. If you’re using a version of Firefox that’s less than 3.6, this method will work. It’s only at 3.6 & above that I’ve had problems with getting it to work. </edit>
